To the finish!

Mood is high, looks like we left some boats in our wake. Beautiful sail to the finish line.

Morning report

What a night! Huuuge waves and winds of 35+ kn. We had to go down to the 2nd reef and jib#4. Laborously working our way up to the finish line now. Everything is totally drenched.

Carnage

Wow. Spinnakers blowing to smithereens left and right. Switched on engine to assist a dismasted boat. They were ok though. On Gringo everything is fine.

Wiped out

Oops. That was too much wind all of a sudden. Spun out of control in a big puff and broached nicely with the mast lying horizontally. Thank god the spi hold up and nothing broke. Mark went into full submersion mode but hold on. Continuing with jib#3 poled out.

Getting ready

Everybody is ready to go!

Off!

30kn from behind and chicken chute up. Mike is on the wheel.

racetracker

Is online now. You can view the progress of the fleet through this link: http://kws.kattack.com/kattacklive/Offshore.aspx?FeedID=254. Thanks to Hurricane Earl, start is now officially postponed to Sat 10a, and the whole fleet is going the Seaflower Reef Course.

Going for the Vineyard race

Earl Friday 09032010
This will be interesting. The frostbiting crew is back together for the Vineyard race on Gringo! One thing to consider is Hurricane Earl. Based on predictions it will not make landfall but pass Friday night south of Long Island. This might affect the start / length of the race, but definitely will have some wind!

Stamford Overnight race

Gringo scored 2nd place in her group in last Friday's overnight race. Great job, guys!

Final result

Check out the final results. We've got 2nd place in the PHRF fleet with about 45 minutes to spare on the 3rd placed boat. We also beat a bunch of IRC boats in direct comparison including last Bermuda Race winner Sinn Fein. Great sailing with a great crew!

Finished!

Yay! Very slow finish, took us about 1hr to go from the Cows to the line. But we did it, finally! Great race, great crew and great boat!

Beating up the LIS

We're moving smoothly after very gusty conditions initially. Stayed with our #2 jib and managed to pass some of our competitors even! If things hold and we don't get a surprise thunderstorm we should be back before the morning.

Back at Plum Gut

Wind from zero this morning to 20kn now! We're just about to pass Plum Gut with awhipping current against us.

Morning report

dang the blackberry ran out of battery and we were quite busy yesterday. So anyways, we got off to a good start reaching under 0.5oz spi and managed to roll a bunch of bigger boats. Decided to go through plum gut which we passed around midnight. Northern end of Block Is at 6a and we rounded the southern tip at 8:30. Time to go to bed now! Picture of Snow Lion passing us at nightfall.

And we're off!
